Having Faith When Goals Are Taking Longer Than Expected To Reach
Do Your Goals Seem To Be Forever Lost?
“When we watch others work, rarely do we doubt they will complete a project, but what about our own? Do we have the same faith?”
I want to talk to you about how to keep your faith when your goals aren’t being reached quick enough and when you feel discouraged that maybe you won’t hit your goals.
Often we find ourselves really getting discouraged and battling ourselves mentally as to why our goals aren’t coming to pass and why it is that we aren’t hitting them in the time frame that we want to hit them.
If you are feeling this way, don’t feel alone, this is something that I have battled with over and over again.
There are times where I really struggle with it, times when I don’t, and then just when you think you have won the mental battle those doubts will try to sneak back in!
“Even though I have reached many of my goals successfully, I still have times that I revert back to those feelings of doubt and fear that I will actually reach my outcome.”
But it isn’t just you and I that have our struggles with faith and reaching our goals, whether others are willing to admit it or not, the truth is most people find themselves in a daily tennis match with their success and failure emotions.
So, it is good to know that we aren’t the only ones that are dealing with these feelings, but it still doesn’t tell us how to handle our negative thoughts and feelings when the creep in with their ugly head.
But what if it was as easy as a simple decision to look at your goals differently. Do you think that is possible? I do, and I’m going to tell you why, just keep reading!
How Goals Can Be Compared To Houses That Are Under Construction
I have the incredible pleasure of living in one of the most incredible places in the U.S. Karen and I live right on the Gulf of Mexico. We have pearly white sand and plenty of sea breeze to enjoy, but another one of our favorite things is to drive up and down the beach and look at the amazing houses!
It’s incredibly inspiring to see such beautiful homes right on the water. Recently while driving, one of the things I’ve been noticing lately is that when we drive down the beach there are some other houses that are being built. They are really nice modern new row homes that are very beautiful and have nice architecture.
They have been in the process of construction for quite some time now. But every time Karen and I drive down the street we see these houses get a little bit further along in the construction process.
This made me think about something the other day. I was looking at the workers working on the homes, and I noticed that I have absolutely no doubt that those houses will eventually be built. It might take a little bit longer than they’d like them to take, but they are going to finish construction eventually.
This made me realize that when we see others working on projects, such as these homes being built, we don’t have any doubts that the project will be completed.
Little by little every day one more brick will be laid down, and over the course of weeks and months the whole foundation will be built, and the next thing you know, windows will be put in, and siding, and roofing and everything and before you know it the whole house will be fully built.
Eventually those houses will be done and eventually people will be living in those houses and any doubts the builder had of those homes being built and finished will completely vanish because they will see the house standing right in front of them!
I think we should look at our goals the same way. I think we should look at our goals and say:
“Just because we don’t see the end result doesn’t mean that we aren’t going to reach the goal. It doesn’t mean that the goal isn’t going to come to pass. It doesn’t mean that we aren’t going to look back one day and think we were crazy for doubting that it ever would happen.”
Tips To Keep The Faith While You Happily Achieve Your Goals!
- Take a few minutes to write down all of the goals you have ever had and achieved in the past.
- If you don’t have a goal you can remember from the past, make a small easily achievable one that you can complete in the next few days. Once you complete it, start your “Goal Achieved List”.
- If you believe in God, thank him in advance for providing a path for you to achieve your outcomes.
- First thing in the morning smile and picture yourself already in possession of your goals and proud that you stayed the course and didn’t give up. Imagine how incredible you will feel when you reach the goal, and the immeasurable feeling of accomplishment you will have!
- Celebrate each small achievement along the journey towards your ultimate goal, not just the big goal, but instead make sure to each day write down the little victories you have made. Smile and pat yourself on the back for each small victory you have!
- Realize that the only way to not reach your goal is if you stop working and give up. Imagine how much better your will be at your craft by the time you finish this journey towards the goal.
- Learn to enjoy the process of happily achieving your goals, instead of just the finish line of goal achievement.
- Lastly, If we look at our goals as a house being built and we say:
“I might not hit that goal today or maybe even this week, but every single day I wake up I am going to lay one more brick towards its achievement”
I hope this was helpful for you. It has been helpful for me to take a look at my goals this way and I think it will help it if you focus on laying one brick at a time. Thanks for reading. Talk to you later!
